This is an image I took during the time I spent at the VA in New Jersey Photographing a good friends dad. We shared in stories and a lot of quality time during his last few months, as He opened up about his life and past experiences in the war. This shot was taken directly after an emotional telling of his story as a POW in Nazi Germany after his plane was shot down behind enemy lines. You could see the hardship it had placed on his heart as he relived each emotion. It was almost as if he had drifted back to that very moment stuck in his memories. We waited until he came back to us in awe and sadness. I was grateful he was willing to share in such a personal experience reliving some of his worst nightmares and had hoped to continue the work with him but sadly he passed shortly after and this is one of the few shots we were able to capture during our brief time together.
